Kavon Roberts, 19, of Bridgeport, was caught by the Bridgeport Police Department's Task Force officers on Tuesday, July 2, with the alleged gun, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.
Roberts, who was also arrested a year ago with another firearm, had reportedly taken over a corner on the East Side at East Main Street and Arctic Street which includes the G&M Deli and Grocery, along with some of his associates, Jones said.
Task Force officers working with the community and outside law enforcement received information that this area has become a safety issue and quality of life problem with drug dealing and people carrying firearms.
Using that information Task Force officers opened an investigation and on July 2, Roberts was seen carrying a firearm in his pocket, Jones said.
With the assistance of K-9 Officer Martocchio, officers nabbed Roberts in the Deli and found a 380-caliber semi-automatic firearm with an extended magazine loaded with 10 live round. In addition, he also allegedly had 34 bags of crack cocaine, police said.
Roberts, a convicted felon who is on the Deadly Weapons Registry, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm plus ammunition, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, carrying a pistol without a permit and illegals sales, delivery or transfer of a firearm.
Bond was set at $250,000.
The department said they have seized 12 illegal firearms in the past two weeks.
